Fantastical for iPhone updated, new settings and other improvements

Fantastical for iPhone updated, new settings and other improvements

The popular and totally awesome calendar app Fantastical for iPhone has been updated with a new setting that allows you to display only one day at a time in the event list. The default setting is an infinite list that shows all future events. A few bugs in Fantastical have also been addressed.

For users who sync their iPhones with an Exchange account, you will no longer be ability to add multiple alerts to your events since Exchange actually doesn't support this feature. And issues with time zones has also been fixed as well as incorrect text coloring and too many characters in the DayTicker in some languages.

Fantastical for iPhone has been my favorite calendar since its debut and the new setting makes it even better. I was never a fan of the infinite list because I could easy get lost or overwhelmed with seeing future plans all at a glance and much prefer only seeing one day of events at a time.

What about you? Do you like the small update to Fantastical? If you don't use Fantastical, what calendar app do you use?

Syrian rebels capture area bordering Israel

Syrian opposition forces on Sunday captured a stretch of land along the country?s southern borders with Israel and Jordan, a human rights group said.

?Fighters loyal to Al-Nusra Front, Al-Yarmuk Brigade, Al-Mutaz Billah Brigade and others took control of Al-Rai military checkpoint? in the country?s southern Daraa district, AFP quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights saying.

The al-Nusra Front, also known as Jabhat al-Nusra, was labeled an al-Qaeda in Iraq affiliate organization and outlawed by the United States in December.

?The fighters seized the site after regime forces retreated. The 25-kilometer [15.5 mile] area located between the towns of Muzrib and Abdin is now out of regime control,? the organization said, naming a town near Jordan and another in the Israel-controlled Golan Heights.

Earlier on Sunday the IDF retaliated when bullets fired from Syria hit army vehicles in the Golan and destroyed the outpost from which the shots originated.

Fighting between Syrian rebel groups and the forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad has raged in the area adjacent to the Israeli border for months. Last week, rebel fighters captured one village and parts of others on the Golan Heights near the 1974 ceasefire line patrolled by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), which was created after the Yom Kippur war.

Two videos updated last week to YouTube claimed to show members of the Quneitra Liberation Collective during and after battle, celebrating with cheers after taking the town of Khan Arnabeh.

Though the combatants did not display flags or other symbols common to Islamist and al-Qaeda-linked groups [which are also fighting in Syria], some of the men shown sported beards and head coverings typical to Islamic groups.

Cyprus races to complete alternative rescue plan

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) ? Politicians in Cyprus were racing Saturday to complete an alternative plan raising funds necessary for the country to qualify for an international bailout, with a potential bankruptcy just three days away.

Cyprus has been told it must raise 5.8 billion euros ($7.5 billion) in order to secure 10 billion euros in rescue loans from other European countries that use the single currency, and from the International Monetary Fund. The country's lawmakers soundly rejected an unpopular initial plan that would have seized up to 10 percent of people's bank accounts, and is now seeking a way to raise the desperately needed money.

Finance Minister Michalis Sarris said it was unclear when new legislation raising funds would be completed and put to a vote in Parliament, but that it could be as early as Saturday night.

Nicosia made a significant step towards cementing a new plan Friday night, when its lawmakers approved nine bills, including three crucial ones that will restructure ailing banks, restrict financial transactions in emergencies and set up a "solidarity fund" for contributions.

Time is running out fast. The European Central Bank has said it will stop providing emergency funding to Cyprus' banks after Monday if no new plan is in place. Without ECB's support, Cypriot banks would collapse on Tuesday, pushing the country toward bankruptcy and a potential exit from the 17-nation eurozone.

Representatives of the IMF, ECB and European Commission ? collectively known as the troika ? were meeting with officials in the Finance Ministry throughout the morning, negotiating several new laws, including a crucial bill that would impose some form of a tax on bank deposits. The percentages and where the tax would apply are unclear, but the deputy head of the DISY governing party, Averof Neophytou, said in Parliament Friday it could be less than 1 percent on all deposits.

Troika consent is essential as they will determine whether the plan that the Cypriots come up with would meet the requirements for the bailout before it is presented to the eurozone finance ministers for final approval.

A eurogroup meeting of the finance ministers is expected to be held in Brussels over the weekend, and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades was also to fly there, potentially as early as Saturday.

Israel closes Gaza crossing after rocket attack

JERUSALEM (AP) ? The Israeli military has closed a Gaza border crossing and restricted Palestinian fishermen in the territory after militants fired rockets into Israel during President Obama's visit.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon instructed the army to close the border crossing used to transfer goods and reduce the permitted fishing zone in the seaside territory from six to three miles offshore.

Army official Guy Inbar said Friday that the restrictions will remain in place until Israeli officials decide to lift them.

At least two rockets landed in a southern Israeli town Thursday, causing damage but no injuries.

An al-Qaida-inspired group says it launched the rockets to protest a visit by Obama.

It was the second instance of Gaza rocket fire since a November ceasefire.

Reconnecting the Church: Networking - Field Project

The principle of ?Six Degrees of Separation? helps us to see how reachable the community in which we minister can be. It works equally well with family, colleagues and friends.

ACTION

Ask to interview three married couples in your church who have family in the community. Work with them in designing a map of their respective family networks (those who live in your city or town). Also, map any other networks (friends and colleagues) that illustrate additional primary or secondary relationships in their lives. This process can be repeated over and over again with other people.

a.????? Include both the husband and wife in your study.

b.????? Before the interview, draw up a chart and include for both husband and wife:

?????????????????????? i.???????? Each of their parents, if alive,

??????????????????? ii.???????? Each of their children,

????????????????? iii.???????? Each of their children?s friends and their parents

????????????????? iv.???????? Each or their siblings, their children and in-laws,

???????????????????? v.???????? Each of the work colleagues with whom they are comfortable conversing,

????????????????? vi.???????? Each of their friends and neighbors with whom they have cordial contact
This exercise can also be used to help single congregants to discover how much potential influence they have through their friendships, their relationships at work, and their neighbors.

REFLECTION

Based on your findings, what might be the potential for outreach in your congregation? You might do this networking exercise with all the adults in your church. More importantly, do some brainstorming about what you might do to reach these people with the gospel. For example:

  • Have parties in the homes of the respective members and have them invite their networks and their friends at church. This idea is not intended as an evangelistic, but as an introduction to relationships with church friends.
  • Plan events in neutral venues, like banquets, and invite to them.
  • Have an open house for the community.
  • Plan a picnic in the park where all the people in the networks of your church are invited.
  • Plan interest groups to which people from the networks can be invited.
  • Put a softball team, soccer team, or a basketball team together and enter a league. Invite those in the collective networks who play that particular sport to participate.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? John Besh has cooked for thousands in his restaurants. He has cooked for millions on TV. But he recently realized he'd lost sight of cooking for the most important diners of all ? his family.

Besh, who owns eight restaurants in south Louisiana and one in San Antonio, said that for years he was working to feed the public but "wasn't feeding the people as a father I was called to feed, and my wife called me out on it."

The husband and father of four said his family was the inspiration for his new cooking show, "Chef John Besh's Family Table."

In the new 26-part series, Besh creates family-friendly meals and gives tips on how to get the most use out of ingredients for economic value. Besh said he hopes the show will inspire families to gather around the supper table.

"We've lost sight of that family table, which has always been that glue that holds our culture together," said Besh, who with his wife of 20 years, Jenifer, has four sons ranging in age from 17 to 8. "The family table is where we communicate and learn how to communicate and negotiate."

Besh said his family also was the inspiration for his latest cookbook, "My Family Table: A Passionate Plea for Home Cooking." Recipes from the book will be made on the show, which was filmed in Besh's kitchen at his 10-acre Bayou Liberty home near Slidell, La.

Besh said he grew up hunting and fishing with his father and grandfather. Cooking and eating together as a family was a part of his upbringing, he said.

"If we went fishing for speckled trout, we'd come home and have trout meuniere for dinner," he said. With four boys who all play sports, "we live at the ball field, and I'm amazed at how many kids are being raised on food from the bag."

The show will air in parts of the Gulf Coast region on WYES-TV beginning April 6, and it will be distributed nationwide through American Public Television. WYES produced cooking shows for Louisiana chefs Justin Wilson and Paul Prudhomme.

"To be a chef in New Orleans, you're a steward of a great tradition and one of many who will pass it on," he said. "Maybe I'm inspiring the next generation of Louisiana chefs."

This will be Besh's second show produced by WYES. "Chef John Besh's New Orleans" has been airing for the past two years.

Besh said that because viewers in other parts of the country had trouble getting some of the local ingredients he used in the first series, such as andouille sausage and soft-shell crabs, he used more accessible foods such as chicken and pork roasts in the new series.
