Mindy Kaling is a Boston native, and if you don't believe her, just ask -- she has proof.
"For a woman in her 30s, I say 'wicked' more than I probably should," the Cambridge, Mass-born actress-writer-producer chuckled to TODAY's Savannah Guthrie on Friday morning outside the city's famous Faneuil Hall.
Kaling hasn't had a series based in her hometown, however. Her current FOX series, "The Mindy Project," is based in New York City, while her past series, NBC's "The Office," which airs its series finale on May 16, is based in Scranton, Penn. That said, she admitted she'd really love to be there for the end of "The Office," if possible.
"That's the plan," she said. "I have no idea what the storyline is, but I'm ... really excited to see how (show creator) Greg Daniels and those guys ... I would love to be a part of it."
Guthrie noted that many famous comedians have come out of Boston, and Kaling suggested the city is a terrific place to forge your funny bone. "It's so cold here all the time and people are like terrible drivers," she grinned, then expressed concern about the Twitter hate she might have just engendered. "We can cop to that. We have a lot of good qualities," she added. "But you have to like, be a toughie here, gives you a good sense of humor."
"The Mindy Project" airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. on FOX; "The Office" airs on NBC on Thursdays at 9 p.m.
