"Moma Dot" embarked on her last journey November 3, 2012. Waiting for her in heaven are her husband's: Manton (Bob)Turner her husband of 14 years and Paul Edward Thomas her husband of 59 years; her parents Walter Thomas and Emma Blanche Ford, her brother Russell S. Ford; her daughter, Barbara T. Goodwin, her grandsons David Alton Goodwin Jr. and Matthew Thomas Ellington.
She was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She was a world traveler, avid player of card games and an artist. Her bags were always packed and ready to go. She was employed as a telegraph operator with the Seaboard Railroad in NC, a telephone operator with Southern Bell in NY, an operator of an apple orchard in Hood River, OR, a secretary at Osteopathic Hospital and Indian Creek Country Club in Miami, FL.
She is survived by a daughter, Paula T. Ellington and husband Jay of Raleigh, a son William T. Turner and wife Barbara of Raleigh, a sister, Rebecca Clayton of Pittsboro, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, three nieces and one nephew.
Our thanks go to the nurses and staff at The Oaks of Mayview and the loving care of Vickie, Anne and Suzanne with Hospice.
Services will be held at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for memories and sharing one hour before the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery following the service.
