Let Sachin Tendulkar decide his future, says Shaun Tait ? Cricket News Update
Shaun Tait, the Australian fast bowler, has come out in support of the legendary Indian batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, and expressed that a player of the Little Master?s calibre deserves to play for as long as he wants to.
Tendulkar, 39, is considered to be one of history?s greatest players with more than 33 thousand runs and 100 centuries at the game?s ultimate level. The stylish batsman has been serving Indian cricket for almost 23 years now, which is an extra-ordinary achievement in itself.
However, the great batsman has not been at his best over the last couple of years, drawing criticism from many former cricketers who believe that the batting-maestro should call it a day from international cricket now.
Tendulkar had a miserable time in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand, scoring just 63 runs in the two matches.
Tait however, is of the view that Tendulkar has been a great ambassador of the sport over the years and reserves the right to decide about his future.
"I personally feel it is not fair to dictate a legend like Sachin on the matter of his retirement. It is absolutely his decision when to retire or not," expressed Tait.
The fast bowler from Adelaide represented Australia in three Tests, 35 One Day Internationals and 19 T20s, picking up 95 scalps. The speedster however, struggled with injuries throughout his career, which hampered his progress. Tait played a massive role in Australia's title triumph in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
The pacer, who still plays T20 cricket all around the world, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), believes that form is temporary but class is permanent. He wants the fans to be a little patient with Tendulkar, who in Tait?s opinion will find back his touch very soon.
"He is a god to Indian cricket and has given so much to the game of cricket. It is only a matter of time before he is back among runs," he added. "Age is just a number. For a cricketer it's his on-field performance that matters the most. Performance should be the only criteria and not the age."
